Performance issues impacting on the future development of the Victorian agrifood sector

Regional Development Victoria commissioned McKinna et al to undertake an analysis of the state of the Victorian agrifood sector. Performance issues impacting on the future development of the Victorian agrifood sector analyses the complex performance issues confronting the agrifood sector, including water availability, food security, climate change, globalisation and workforce skills.

This independent report is not a statement of Victorian Government policy. It is a valuable information resource for the agrifood sector and the Victorian Government to use as a starting point for further investigation into the sector’s evolving business structures, complex supply chains (value chains), and investment drivers. The report acknowledges the positive role government policy, programs and initiatives can play in the ongoing development of the sector.

The report’s broad message is: Victoria’s agrifood sector is resilient and adaptable; however, for it to meet its future challenges it needs to be highly innovative, globally competitive and sustainable.
