Horsham Town Hall Redevelopment
The 1930s art deco Horsham Town Hall and the Horsham Regional Arts Gallery are important social hubs for the local community and are to be transformed into a vibrant new arts precinct.
A $5 million RDV Infrastructure Development Fund grant will help develop the town hall into a major new cultural centre, creating 30 new jobs during the construction period and about 15 full and part-time jobs once operational.
The $12.2 million project includes:
- Converting the main hall into a 500+ seat performing arts auditorium
- Replacement of the stage area of the hall with a new 'stage house' with contemporary theatre services and theatre equipment
- Creation of a new public foyer space that will serve the art gallery and the proposed new auditorium, incorporating commercially viable hospitality facilities
- Enhancement of public access to the art gallery and creation of new exhibition spaces and improved storage areas
- Addition of a range of building improvements including venue management and administration offices, back-of-house performing arts facilities (dressing rooms, green room, visiting company office etc).
This project will create a fully professional performing arts venue in Horsham which will enable the performing arts program to expand and attract large scale events such as touring opera and ballet performances.
