Mildura Riverfront Development Facilitation Project
An $8 million grant from RDV's Infrastructure Development Fund will be used to remove a major barrier to developing the Mildura riverfront, paving the way for up to $122 million in new investment.
The project will enable Mildura Rural City Council to achieve its vision for Mildura as a thriving river city that capitalises on its key natural asset, the Murray River.
The Mildura Rail Freight yards will be rationalised back to the main line, with the provision for rail marshalling and maintenance operations decentralised to alternate locations.
Removing this major barrier between the city centre and the riverfront will generate significant new investment and is expected to create around 270 full-time jobs.
The council's vision includes the development of five riverfront precincts incorporating the Mildura Wharf Waterfront, a games and entertainment precinct, an arts and lock precinct, the Chaffey Watergardens and the marina precinct. The new precincts will provide unique resort and lifestyle developments supported by quality commercial, retail and community infrastructure in Mildura.
Mildura is one of the fastest growing cities in regional Victoria with a population growth rate of 2.2 per cent. This development will provide a new impetus for Mildura to build on its reputation as a regional capital and an important centre for tourism.
