Numurkah Showgrounds Redevelopment
Numurkah Showgrounds will undergo a $2.3 million redevelopment with the help of a $350,000 RDV Infrastructure Development Fund grant to Moira Shire Council. Numurkah Showgrounds was the second project to be supported through the government's $4 million Rural Showgrounds Infrastructure Renewal Fund, a sub-program of RDV's Infrastructure Development Fund.
The redevelopment of Numurkah Showgrounds will provide new and improved infrastructure for both the Numurkah Agricultural Show Society and for the broad range of community, recreational and sporting associations which use the showgrounds.
The redevelopment project includes:
- construction of a new multi-purpose pavilion including a multi-use room, kitchen and catering area
- renovation of the existing show arena and construction of a new arena
- relocation and refurbishment of four major show pavilions to provide undercover space
- relocation and refurbishment of the cattle judging pavilion
- precinct improvements to traffic management and spectator areas
- development of amenities including picnic and barbecue areas and shade trees
- associated show and events infrastructure including construction of an all-weather surface and restoration of entry gates.
The project enjoys strong local community support and Moira Shire Council envisaged the redeveloped facilities would attract new events such as industry conferences that would not have been previously held in Numurkah because of the lack of facilities for large gatherings. Holding bigger and more events at Numurkah Showgrounds means more visitors to the region and a boost to the local economy.
The project has strong local business support with the local community contributing $200,000 to the project, Moira Shire contributing $500,000, the Commonwealth Government $500,000 and Sport and Recreation Victoria providing the balance.
