Local Skills Partnerships
Local governments play a critical role in regional development - one that requires specialised skills ranging from surveying and planning to expertise in attracting new businesses or coordinating the development of local industry workforces. With these skills in high demand around Australia, attracting and retaining suitably skilled people is a significant challenge for local government in regional Victoria.
The Local Skills Partnerships program focuses on building the economic development capacity and capability of local government through the recruitment and professional development of economic development staff and promotion of the regions' economic strengths to attract and retain skilled people.
Eligibility
The Local Skills Partnerships program is available to the 48 rural and regional councils. It is also open to economic development and representative bodies – such as the Building Commission, Planning Institute of Australia, and the Municipal Association of Victoria - who are capable of addressing local government workforce development issues.
Program guidelines describing the Local Skills Partnerships Program are being revised and will be available soon.
Delivery
The program is implemented by Regional Development Victoria.
