State Government of Victoria

Local Solutions Year 12 Retention Fund

Education opportunity is vital to the growth of regional Victoria which is why the Government is providing $5 million over four years through the Regional Growth Fund to improve Year 12 retention rates in regional and rural Victoria. Whilst the student retention rate in metropolitan Melbourne increased from 85 per cent to 87.7 per cent between 2002 and 2010, the rate for regional and rural students decreased from 71 per cent to 68.5 per cent.

The Local Solutions Year 12 Retention Program will support government, catholic and independent secondary and P-12 schools in regional and rural Victoria to introduce innovative programs that improve retention rates. The program will complement other Government initiatives aimed at improving student engagement and increasing curriculum options for regional and rural students.

Delivery

This fund will be managed by Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
