Improving Liveability for Older People
The Improving Liveability for Older People (ILOP) Initiative aims to to assist small towns with ageing populations in regional Victoria by building local government and community capacity to plan and deliver projects that will make a positive difference to the quality of life, social participation, health and well-being of older people.
The following shires have been targeted for this initiative: Southern Grampians, Pyrenees, Glenelg, Colac Otway, Surf Coast, South Gippsland, Strathbogie, Moira, Buloke, Gannawarra, Loddon, and Central Goldfields.
Local shires and social service and support organisations for older people are asked to nominate a lead organisation to work in partnership within each shire.
Grants up to $100,000 are available to each shire for the delivery of projects over two years, in two distinct program phases.
- Phase 1 - Consultation and Planning: an initial grant of $20,000 will be available to partnerships (via the lead organisation) to consult with local groups and the older population, and to develop detailed project plans aimed at creating more age-friendly communities.
At the conclusion of this phase each partnership through their lead organisation must submit a detailed plan outlining the ILOP projects within the shire.
- Phase 2 - Implementation: Once the plans have been received, and agreed with the Department of Health (DH), up to $80,000 will be provided to the lead organisation in each shire to manage implementation of agreed projects.
Delivery
The program is coordinated by Senior Victorians, Aged Care Branch, Department of Health.
