Tourism recovery funding for Marysville
Friday, 7 October 2011
The Victorian Government has allocated more than $84,000 for 15 projects across Marysville and surrounding townships to raise the profile of the region and consolidate the region's tourism strengths.
The Victorian Government understood the devastating impacts of the 2009 bushfires on the regional tourism industry, and this funding is part of a coordinated approach to support the region's on-going recovery – both in terms of infrastructure and visitation.
The funding will not only help with job creation, but also generate increased visitation as well as improve the long-term viability and resilience of tourism businesses.
The funding is through the Victoria Government's Marysville Tourism and Events Marketing Program 2011-14 to assist with the tourism marketing and delivery of events being held across townships such as Alexandra, Lake Mountain, Kinglake and Yea.
Events supported include the Alexandra Spring Carnival and Market Day; Kinglake Ranges Produce and Artisan Market; Yea Autumn Festival; and the Bushrodders Rod Run Billy Cart Derby, which is being held this Sunday in Glenburn.
The funding is vital for the region and will assist with regaining the region's status as a great Victorian tourism destination.
The program acknowledged the strong community spirit and pride in the region with funding supporting local events such as the Rockin' the Mountain event in Homewood; HiArts Event in Highlands; and the Bushrodders Rod Run Show and Shine in Yea.
Funding will include support to the popular Nissan Car Club's Eildon1600 Classic Rally as well as a number of events at Melbourne's closest ski resort, Lake Mountain, including a musical festival, school holiday market and a mountain bike event Granite Grind.
The funding also follows the recent announcement of $25,000 for the Marysville Sparkling Wine Festival which will be held later this month.
