Recovery by community

Local communities are at the heart of the recovery effort. After the fires, 33 Community Recovery Committees (CRC) were established, made up of community representatives who oversaw the recovery and rebuilding process in their areas.

Rebuilding and recovery priorities identified by CRCs were supported by the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority, the Victorian and Commonwealth governments, councils, the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund and corporate and philanthropic donors.

All CRCs effectively came to an end on 30 June although many of their representatives still remain active in their local communities and are pursuing ongoing bushfire recovery activities through other community organisations.
