Rebuilding Marysville and Triangle
The Communities
Situated in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, and surrounded by the Yarra Ranges National Park and the Cathedral Ranges, Marysville and Triangle includes the townships of Marysville, Narbethong, Taggerty, Granton and Buxton.
In the Shire of Murrindindi, Marysville is just under two hours from Melbourne. About 12 kilometres further east of Marysville is Lake Mountain which is a popular destination for cross country skiing and bushwalking.
With its scenic location, the area has traditionally been popular with holiday makers, with around 40 per cent of all residences in the township of Marysville owned by part-time residents. Accommodation and food services make up more than 40 per cent of business activity in the town.
The Bushfires
The February 7 2009 bushfires had a devastating effect on Marysville and the Triangle region.
There were 34 deaths in Marysville and four at Narbethong.
Around 530 properties, 95 per cent of the retail businesses and the commercial centre of Marysville were destroyed.
An estimated 50 per cent of employment in Marysville was lost with most of the hospitality and tourism jobs gone.
The primary school, retirement village, community centre, post office, medical centre and police station were also destroyed, as well as a large number of accommodation places, including conference facilities.
The Marysville Country Club, including the golf course, also experienced severe fire damage to shedding, equipment and 12 holes of the golf course.
The Marysville DSE office was damaged and widespread devastation caused to the surrounding forest which has had a significant impact on the local timber industry.
Marysville and Triangle Open for Business
The tourism industry of the Murrindindi and Mitchell Shires were particularly affected by the fires, however there are still many great experiences offered. Tourists are being urged to visit Marysville and surrounds, with many attractions, businesses and places open for business.

Recovery Plan
Since the 2009 bushfires Community Recovery Committees and the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (the Authority) have worked in partnership with the community, other government departments and authorities, the philanthropic sector and private donors to deliver outcomes for the vast majority of recovery projects proposed in the 33 Community Recovery Plans across the state. The plans have been pivotal in driving and directing the community rebuilding and recovery effort, through a focus on the needs and priorities of each individual community.
With around 1,100 projects and ideas identified in plans across Victoria, the Authority estimates that around 800 of these have been addressed in varying ways. Hundreds more projects identified outside this process have been delivered across affected communities.
The attachments below include the Community Recovery Plan and the response and funding status for all of the projects originally identified:
