Wednesday, 28 September 2011
Plans for the transformation of Mildura's riverfront precinct and the overhaul of the town's airport passenger terminal have received support from the Victorian Government with the allocation of $8 million in funding from the Regional Growth Fund.
Speaking in Mildura today, Acting Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the Victorian Government was committed to supporting growth in the Sunraysia region.
The Government promised to deliver a $14.5 million economic development package for Mildura "and it is great to see these important local projects start to take shape," Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the Government had already achieved a number of key outcomes to promote Mildura's Master Plan including:
- the declaration of the riverfront and marina development as a 'project of state significance'; and
- the establishment of the Mildura Riverfront Project Control Board (PCB).
The Mildura Riverfront PCB is playing a key role in delivering on the Riverfront Master Plan and ensuring the objectives of all key stakeholders are met.
"The Victorian Government recently allocated $5 million for the Riverfront Master Plan to support works to parklands, boardwalks, jetties, landscaping and waterfront cafes," Mr Ryan said..
The Government has also provided $3 million to support an upgrade to Mildura's Airport Passenger Terminal to provide a world-class gateway into the city.
Mr Ryan said the Government would continue to work with Mildura Rural City Council to secure funding from the Commonwealth for the Mildura Master Plan.
"The riverfront, marina and airport projects are key regional development initiatives for the northern part of Victoria that will provide a social and economic boost, promote tourism and growth throughout the Sunraysia region," Mr Ryan said.
