Central Highlands Regional Plan discussed
Tuesday, 12 July 2011
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional and Rural Development Damian Drum today met with industry leaders, business and community representatives in Ballarat to discuss priorities in the Central Highlands Regional Plan.
Mr Drum said the roundtable discussions would focus on economic development, leadership and further actions for the region.
Representing Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan, Mr Drum said the Victorian Government had a vision to ensure regional and rural Victoria remained a key contributor to the state's future growth and prosperity.
"The Victorian Government last week officially launched its $1 billion Regional Growth Fund, which will enhance infrastructure investment in regional Victoria while also strengthening the economic and social base of our communities," Mr Drum said.
"It is important that regional growth is driven by local communities and the government is committed to supporting locally identified projects that deliver specific benefits to communities."
Mr Drum said the roundtables were an opportunity to engage with a broader group of business and industry leaders and ensure the region was best placed to take advantage of government resources.
"These roundtable discussions are a great way to assist in the identification of potential partnerships and business opportunities in a collaborative effort with state and local government across the Central Highlands," Mr Drum said.
"The Victorian Government is committed to working with regional communities in the Central Highlands region and supporting grass-roots developments and initiatives that deliver for local people."
