Tuesday, 17 January 2012
Some of Australia's leading arts companies will tour across regional Victoria in 2012 following the latest announcement of funding through the Victorian Government's Touring Victoria program.
Premier and Minister for the Arts Ted Baillieu today announced funding of $600,500 to support eight tours to regional areas including tours by three major arts organisations, Circus Oz, Opera Australia and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.
The latest grants are in addition to 15 touring projects that received funding in August 2011 and bring the State Government's total investment in regional arts touring to more than $1.5 million this year.
This further investment in the arts for regional Victoria supports the Government's' commitment to giving regional Victorian communities equal access to the best arts and cultural experiences on offer.
The $2 million four-year commitment will bring some of the most exciting works by flagship companies to audiences in regional centres from Mildura to Marysville and Warrnambool to Wodonga.
Supported tours include:
- a full-scale circus production by Circus Oz that will travel to Warragul, Mildura, Frankston and Dandenong as part of its 2012 national tour;
- Opera Australia's production of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni that will be presented at Bendigo, Shepparton, Warragul, Warrnambool and Sale with a special presentation at the Marysville Community Centre;
- support for Orchestra Victoria to expand its regional touring activity of concerts, workshops and master-class programs to more than 20 locations across Victoria;
- Hit Productions' Diving for Pearls performing in 13 different venues including Ararat, Bendigo, Traralgon, Wonthaggi and Wangaratta.
