Jobs to grow in Bendigo02/11/2018
Bendigo jobseekers will benefit from a new program that creates jobs by encouraging businesses to use local products and services, backed by $750,000 in Victorian Government funding.
Be Bendigo has been chosen to deliver the Growing Regional Opportunities for Work (GROW) initiative locally – a place-based solution to unemployment, disadvantage and strengthening local economies.
GROW is a collective impact initiative, with business, government, community organisations and individuals working together to address disadvantage in areas of high unemployment.
The initiative is aimed at creating new jobs, and providing opportunities for jobseekers from areas of high unemployment, by asking organisations to choose to buy goods and services that contribute socially and economically to their local community.
The initiative was established in Geelong in 2013 where it has now signed on more than 80 local businesses and organisations, which has created 80 jobs and led to a shift to local spending valued at $20.21 million.
GROW guides the efforts of numerous stakeholders working together to create new jobs and investment opportunities. The project deals with the known correlation between unemployment and disadvantage.
All GROW partners commit to building a stronger local economy, and to offering opportunities to job seekers in places where there are high rates of joblessness.
GROW Bendigo will be designed to encourage businesses and agencies to do things differently by building capability and an appetite for collaboration within the Bendigo business community.
Be Bendigo will develop and deliver the program with input from a number of businesses who have already expressed interest in the program.
