Kiewa jobs boost from new manufacturing plant

Thursday, 24 June 2011

The new Danone Murray Goulburn (MG) manufacturing plant in Tangambalanga was officially opened today.

Danone MG's $40 million Kiewa Valley plant expansion will also enable the company to establish a new market for its milk, providing a higher value for these processed products.

Up to 100 jobs were created during the construction phase of the facility and another 50 local jobs will be available through the expanded Danone MG plant. Danone Murray Goulburn's investment will create a greater local skill base because the expansion required extensive training of staff.

There will also be further flow-on effects in the local community with increased demand for goods and services generated by a larger work force. The new facility is the first major initiative since the joint venture company Danone MG was formed in 2010 by Australian dairy industry giant, Murray Goulburn Co-Operative, and European dairy dessert company, Danone.

Danone Murray Goulburn will use its expanded facilities for various operations including the manufacture of yoghurt products for the Australian market.

Danone is a Fortune 500 company and one of the most successful healthy food companies in the world with sales in excess of $21 billion during 2009, while Murray Goulburn was Australia's biggest dairy processor and exporter of dairy foods.
