New centre to support local Horsham infrastructure projects01/04/2016
The Victorian Government today welcomed the official opening of a new $450,000 research centre in Horsham to support infrastructure projects across the region.
A joint initiative of the Victorian Government, Regional Development Australia, Federation University Australia and Wimmera Development Association, the Regional Incubator for Social and Economic Research (RISER) will be located at Federation University’s campus in Horsham.
PhD students at the university will lead the projects and will be mentored by local community and business representatives to provide vital social and economic information about the Grampians region that will place it in the best possible position to determine its priorities.
RISER will undertake social and economic research to support cases for regional economic infrastructure priorities.
Based on a collaborative United Kingdom research model, the hub is designed to build stronger, local communities and maximise the impact of infrastructure projects by partnering researchers with local government and business.
RISER will develop programs based on “rurality” that will strengthen the case for increased funding for the Grampians region. The research will also assist the newly formed Regional Partnerships in determining priorities.
