New strategy to boost Murray River region events28/08/2015
A new strategy to attract visitors to events in the Murray River region was launched today by the Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford.
Ms Pulford said tourism in the Murray Region was worth more than $1 billion per year and employed an estimated 15,500 Victorians.
The Murray River Region Tourism Event Strategy will examine key events to ensure that a collaborative approach to their timing boosts local tourism and the local economies that host them.
Regional events boost tourism and the strategy aims to maximise the exposure for Murray River region events so they attract more visitors to the region and deliver economic benefits for an already strong tourism sector.
The Victorian Government provided funding of $30,000 for the Murray River Region Tourism Event Strategy to Murray River Region Tourism Limited, which created the strategy in consultation with six Victorian and eight New South Wales local councils, Tourism Victoria and Destination NSW.
The Murray River Region Tourism Event Strategy will complement the new Visit Victoria campaign that will market the State’s regions to Australia and the world.
The Government will invest $3 million to embark on the most ambitious regional marketing campaign in our State’s history, highlighting regional Victoria’s treasures and showcasing our regions.
Visit Victoria’s Regional Division will work directly with Regional Tourism Boards and operators to grow tourism in Victoria’s regions and will be tasked with growing regional Victoria’s enviable calendar of events.
