$100,000 for Tallangatta Growth Strategy
25 August 2010
A new Victorian Government-funded project will tackle critical issues impacting the growth of Tallangatta in Towong Shire.
Supported by $100,000 from the government’s Planning for Growth program, the Tallangatta Re-establishment Strategy will provide a blueprint for the Tallangatta township to become a vibrant settlement in the Hume region.
The $180,000 strategy will help the town overcome a range of challenges, including changing climatic conditions, aging infrastructure and the growth of nearby regional cities, Albury and Wodonga.
The strategy holds the key to far-reaching benefits relating to growth, including:
- Reinstating the foreshore of Lake Hume.
- Releasing new land for residential development.
- Redesigning the shopping precinct to make it more conducive to business and tourism growth.
- Improving the liveability of Tallangatta by development social infrastructure in the town centre.
- Rezoning and redeveloping sections of Goulburn Murray Water-owned land for residential purposes.
- Realising new uses for the large area of foreshore land adjacent to Lake Hume.
- Plus the development of foot-cycle connections throughout the town – among them links to the High Country Rail Trail.
Community members will take ownership of the redevelopment strategy and use it as a guide for families, individuals, businesses and community groups to support future living, working and investment decisions in Tallangatta.
