2011-12 Federal Budget

The 2011-12 Budget builds upon the Government's record investment in regional Australia, committing $4.3 billion in areas including transport, water, energy, health, education, and communication infrastructure for regional Australia.

The 2011-12 Regional Budget highlights include:

  • $1.8 billion over 6 years for infrastructure upgrades to hospitals and health services
  • $500 million over 5 years to strengthen regional higher education and vocational education and training institutions, to be delivered through the regional priorities round of the Education Investment Fund
  • $109.9 million over four years for universities with regional campuses
  • $1 billion over 5 years to finance infrastructure projects that best fit the economic and community needs of the regions.  This will be delivered through the Regional Development Australia Fund
  • Promoting the lifestyle and business opportunities offered in regional centres
  • $20.3 million over 4 years to strengthen Regional Development Australia committees.
