Assisting families repairing flood affected homes

Fri 4 March 2011

The Minister for Environment and Climate Change today released a sustainable ideas factsheet to assist Victorians affected by the floods to repair their homes.

Unfortunately many families were affected by recent floods and will be replacing household items and repairing their homes.

The Government is assisting affected families with a range of flood relief grants, and with other important information including helpful ideas for recovery.

The fact sheet includes a range of simple actions and ideas that can help save money on things like household energy and water bills.

Some money-saving options are as simple as draught-proofing doors, sealing gaps and cracks, installing energy-efficient light globes and choosing the right appliances.

Common items around the home such as electronics, carpets, timber and plasterboards may be damaged beyond repair and many of these items can be recycled instead of going to landfill.
