Bairnsdale oncology and dialysis unit opens
Wednesday, 18 May 2011
Minister for Health David Davis today officially opened the new $3.5 million oncology and dialysis unit at Bairnsdale Regional Health.
The Victorian Government is committed to improving access to health services for all Victorians, and this facility will help meet the needs of local people who will be able to receive oncology and dialysis services closer to home.
This new facility is an excellent example of the sound management and hard work undertaken by Bairnsdale Regional Health. It is also due to the support and ongoing commitment of the Pelican Auxiliary, which raised more than $1 million to ensure the successful completion of this project.
Other community organisations and hospital auxiliaries have also donated money and goods that have provided state-of-the-art facilities and furnishings.
The Government is committed to providing equitable access to health services for all Victorians, and the facility will ensure the ongoing availability of oncology and dialysis services for local people.
The new facility houses nine oncology chairs and nine dialysis chairs.
It has increased dialysis capacity by three chairs (equivalent to six dialysis treatments per day).
