Boost for Bendigo's Dental School

Fri 29 April 2011
A $2 million refurbishment to Bendigo's Dental Training School has been opened at the Anne Caudle Centre.

The school is a partnership between the state government, Bendigo Health and La Trobe University.

The expanded and refurbished unit is a boost for the region particularly given Regional Development Victoria (RDV) research showed medical professionals trained in regional areas were 70 per cent more likely to remain in the areas they trained in, boosting medical services available there.

It's a great opportunity to get trained local dentists in this region and it is proven that it's far more likely that medical professionals, such as dentists, who are trained in the region will stay in the region, and they will provide a much-needed boost to Bendigo and the region.

The partnership was established under the former government and was completed with support from his government.

Bendigo Health community dental program manager Graeme Allan said the 10-chair teaching clinic would be operated jointly by Bendigo Health and La Trobe University to train third, fourth and fifth-year dental students.

The clinic will treat 9000 public dental cases in the year to June 30.
