Redeveloped Library opens in Euroa

Wednesday, 08 June 2011

The Euroa community has a newly redeveloped library thanks to a partnership between the Victorian Government and the Shire of Strathbogie.

Minister for Local Government Jeanette Powell today officially opened the redeveloped Euroa Library.

"Libraries are essential community infrastructure that bring the community together and connect it to the wider world," Mrs Powell said.

The Government is committed to enhancing lifelong learning and the continual improvement of our public library network is an integral part of that commitment.

The new building replaces one that was more than 80 years old and had fallen below an acceptable standard of amenity and repair, and the redevelopment boasts a large, multi-purpose meeting room, an area dedicated to children's activities and a great 'outdoor' room.

The redevelopment has delivered a modern library that will provide space for study, youth, children, research and internet use.

The Victorian Government's funding consists of a $450,000 Living Libraries grant in addition to a $200,000 grant from the Community Support Fund. This funding is complemented by $400,000 from the Euroa Council.

"The Victorian Government is ensuring all Victorians have access to library services that meet the needs of diverse, growing communities," Mrs Powell said.
