Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan today gave a taste of what’s to come at the state’s first Regional Victoria Living Expo, to be held in Melbourne from 27 – 29 April.
Mr Ryan donned a chef’s apron and joined a cooking demonstration with regional celebrity chef Matt Dempsey at the Regional Victoria Living Expo host site, the Melbourne Convention Centre, to give an overview of the upcoming Expo.
Celebrity cooking demonstrations will be among the array of culinary, music, arts and sports presentations at the Expo which will highlight the diversity within our regions.
“The 2012 Regional Victoria Living Expo will showcase what our regions have to offer, from career, education and business opportunities, to housing and lifestyle benefits.
“All Victorians who visit the Expo will see that our state’s regional and rural areas provide numerous advantages in livability, jobs, education and business viability,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the Expo would include forums and discussion groups with those who had already made a successful relocation into regional Victoria, and would involve a diverse range of ambassadors such as Matt Dempsey, representing the Golden Plains shire.
“All our 48 Victorian regional councils will be participating in the Expo to provide on-hand advice and resources to potential tree changers. We are expecting over a hundred exhibitors ready to discuss the lifestyle benefits of living in their regions,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said regional Victoria had fantastic growth opportunities with the population expected to almost double by 2056.
“Making the move to regional Victoria can be rewarding for individuals, families, businesses and industry, and above all it is beneficial to Victoria’s overall economy,” Mr Ryan said.
“The Government is committed to ensuring Victoria’s regional and rural areas are an ideal lifestyle alternative and I encourage all Melbournians to visit the Expo to find out why so many Victorians live in the regions.”
