Benalla's upgraded Winton Motor Raceway opened

Monday 8 February 2016

Celebrating the completion of track upgrades and safety improvements at Victoria’s premier regional motorway, the Winton Motor Raceway, members of the Benalla Auto Club joined the State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes to open the track yesterday.

The improved track will support 59 full time jobs and help grow the visitor economy through expected increases in the value of tourism to the Benalla economy by $10 million per annum, from $35 million to $45 million. Patronage of the Raceway is expected to increase by up to 40 per cent by year five of operations.

With the upgrade complete, Winton Motor Raceway retains its Confederation of Australian Motor Sports licence and is positioned to meet the standards of the Federation Internationale De l’Automobile and the Australian Auto Sport alliance.

The Government partnered with Benalla Auto Club to deliver this project in very tight timelines, which will enable Winton Motor Raceway to host the V8 Supercars in May and attract a range of major events such as the Porsche Carrera Cup and Australian Superbikes.

During the construction phase, the project injected more than $3 million into the local economy.

The Victorian Government provided $1 million towards the project from the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund
