Viterra to build 200,000-tonne Grain facility at Dooen
Wednesday, 28 September 2011
Global agribusiness Viterra is constructing a $10 million grain receival facility at Dooen, Victoria, adjacent to its existing processing and packing facility.
Viterra’s new facility, with 200,000 tonne capacity, will integrate with the intermodal rail facility being constructed by the Victorian and Federal governments. It will give exporters in the region more direct rail access to ports in both South Australia and Victoria, improving speed to port and freight costs.
This investment will directly benefit the region’s growers and exporters alike and the advantages would flow through to the region’s local communities.
Dean McQueen, Viterra’s Executive Manager Grain said Viterra is cementing its long term commitment to rural Victoria and is making significant investments to expand its grain storage, processing and packing facilities.
Their investment and new facilities at Dooen will create a more efficient supply chain for container and bulk exports from the region. Local growers will have access to a broader range of markets and reduced freight time and cost.
Construction has commenced and the receivals facility will be completed in time for this year’s harvest.
Viterra has an existing container packing facility at Dooen, currently packing 120,000 tonnes of grain annually, which will double once the receival facility is completed.
Dooen is strategically situated on the Adelaide rail line, 15 kilometres from Horsham.
Viterra is expanding its business in Victoria having recently opened agri-product retail depots in Ballarat and Horsham. These local investments build on Viterra’s existing presence in Victoria including grain receival, packing and processing sites, as well as a malting plant, wool store and fertiliser distribution site.
