RDA Barwon South West Celebrates Success

  • $26m towards $128m of projects over four years
  • Benefits across the region
  • Preparing for the Federal Government’s $1billion National Stronger Regions Fund
  • Focus on tourism opportunities

Bruce Anson, Chair of the Regional Development Australia Barwon South West Committee (RDA BSW), recently released the ‘Barwon South West Activities, Achievements and Future Focus’ publication which looks back on the recent achievements of the RDA BSW and outlines the opportunities the Committee will be pursuing over the next 12 months.

“This document highlights some of the stand-out projects the Committee has supported to help make a difference to the people of the Barwon South West and positioned the region well for future development. These projects demonstrate the Committee has worked hard with a range of stakeholders to secure funding not just from the RDA, but also leveraged contributions from other sources to help make these projects a reality,” Mr Anson said. Mr Anson added the RDA BSW had advocated to secure over $26m in funding for key regional development projects with a total investment value of $128m over the past four years.

The publication also outlines a plan for the next 12 months by focusing on key areas for attention and Mr Anson acknowledged “that though the region is going through a period of transition, there has been and continues to be significant new investment by industry and governments in the region and we are determined to boost investment and grow employment opportunities in existing and emerging areas of competitive advantage.”

Mr Anson said that “the Federal Government’s $1billion National Stronger Regions Fund will be up and running next year and will target infrastructure projects that support local and regional economic development. The Committee continues to foster alliances and partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders to build momentum and help advance key regional economic projects including infrastructure priorities for public and private investment.”
