Strategic Initiatives
The $300 million Strategic Initiatives component of the RGF supports major projects of regional and state-wide significance which will strengthen the economic base of communities and generate opportunities for new jobs.
Economic infrastructure
The Economic Infrastructure Program aims to improve the productive potential of regional and rural Victoria by strengthening regional industries, supporting and growing local economies, and providing opportunities through investment in enabling strategic infrastructure.
Growing and Sustaining Regional Industries and Jobs
This sub-program aims to assist existing and emerging regional and rural Victorian industries to become more sustainable and resilient to changing economic and environmental conditions by supporting investments in enabling economic infrastructure. It improves access to markets and attracts new investment, while creating jobs and growing or securing the operations of existing regional businesses.
Transforming and Transitioning Local Economies
By investing in enabling strategic infrastructure, this sub-program aims to create new community or business opportunities in regional and rural Victoria that strengthen the regional economy, while also building on significant community assets. This sub-program has a broad focus, and projects of regional significance that can demonstrate a transformational impact on the region, including improved economic viability, will be given priority.
Building Strategic Tourism and Cultural Assets
This sub-program aims to develop strategic, targeted tourism and cultural assets that grow the tourism and cultural product mix across Victoria, stimulate increased visitation, and enhance the liveability of regional towns. Priority will be given to projects that are considered to be of State or regional significance.
Energy for the Regions
This program will deliver $100 million over four years to help expand natural gas to communities across regional Victoria and to encourage greater investment in the regions. This sub-program is only available to energy businesses through a centrally managed tender process.
Developing stronger regions
The Developing Stronger Regions Program provides support for studies, such as a feasibility study, a demand study or a business case, to enable prospective applicants to investigate the technical and/or economic viability of a project.
The study will be required to be completed by an organisation with the prerequisite expertise. This generally will require the engagement of an independent third party.
