Deakin University historic redevelopment
Location: Geelong
Funding: Regional Development Victoria's infrastructure development fund - $6 million
The historic woolstore buildings are the centrepiece of Deakin University's Geelong Waterfront campus. Following a $37 million redevelopment backed by Regional Development Victoria's infrastructure development funding, the opening of the Dennys Lascelles Woolstore has allowed the landmark six-storey building to cater for up to 1000 additional students.
The Dennys Lascelles Woolstore houses two schools:
- Alfred Deakin Institute - an interdisciplinary teaching and research centre offering courses in political science, public policy and governance, international relations, globalisation and journalism
- Deakin Geelong Health Precinct - offering courses in nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
The building includes a mix of retail, professional and commercial spaces, and promotes public access with walkways through to the waterfront precinct, public transport, and Geelong's central business area.
