Edenhope Shearing Centre

Funding: Small Towns Development Fund - $80,000

In recent years, the Edenhope district has been facing a challenge to source sufficient numbers of shearers to meet demand. The Edenhope Pastoral and Agricultural Society identified the need for shearer training to be offered locally and the Edenhope P-12 College had also been searching for modern facilities to provide a Certificate III in Shearing.

The Edenhope Shearing Centre at the Edenhope Showgrounds, opened in January 2009, is meeting all of these needs.

The training of shearers and Edenhope P-12 College students being provided by a fully-accredited shearer training company and the centre is also available for use for shearing demonstrations and competitions.

Rural Skills Connect will soon be running a shearing training course from the Edenhope centre. The course is being offered to all Wimmera shearers and has had interest from other parts of Victoria.

The total cost of the new centre was $117,841.
