Planting seeds for success

Location: Gelliondale

Funding: Regional Investment Initiative – $150,000

HVP Plantations Pty Ltd is the largest privately owned softwood forest company in Australia. It has approximately 245,000 hectares of forest under management and its nursery operation produces 4.25 million seedlings, injecting $1.4 million into the local economy through wages.

With the help of Regional Investment Initiative funding, HVP Plantations invested $10 million in a new Gippsland greenhouse facility, creating 11 full-time-equivalent positions. The expanded nursery will produce more than 10 million plants per year and contribute $2.5 million into the local community.

Greater sustainability will be achieved through the investment including significant water savings, reduced chemicals usage, and more robust seedlings. The funding has also created substantial benefits for other regional business and secure the company’s nursery operations at the Gelliondale site.
