Bendigo-based company Searl Bros has been awarded the contract in the redevelopment of Maryborough’s Central Goldfields Art Gallery, a much-anticipated project supported by the Victorian Government.
Works will begin on the redevelopment, which will be delivered thanks to $1.7 million from the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
The gallery’s redevelopment is also supported by the Central Goldfields Shire Council and will see the current gallery, which operates from Maryborough’s historic Fire Station, expanded allowing more room for exhibitors and visitors.
Construction firm Searl Bros will begin works on all three phases of the redevelopment which will include an educational and visual arts space that provides locals with more opportunities to develop their artistic skills and put their works on display.
The transformation of the gallery will also feature, a permanent collection gallery and pop-up exhibition space, improved gallery accessibility and amenities, climate-controlled artwork storage, sustained air-conditioning and lighting and restoration of the 19th century beams.
A garden is also being developed with the assistance of Djandak, a Supply Nation certified business that is owned and operated by the Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners.
The project is an example of the Victorian Government’s almost $30 billion investment in rural and regional Victoria since 2015. Information about the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund is available at rdv.vic.gov.au/rjif.
