Mildura riverfront powers up next phase27/01/2022
The Mildura riverfront upgrade is on track with the Powerhouse’s main building works starting next month, paving the way for more people to enjoy Mildura’s scenic Murray River thanks to support from the Victorian Government.
Designs of the Powerhouse Precinct are available to the public and have been delivered through extensive community input.
The designs include transforming the former Powerhouse basement space into a multi-use arts space, a kitchen for events, flexible indoor and outdoor event spaces and a large outdoor shade structure. The precinct will be built within new landscaping to match the rest of the redeveloped riverfront.
The Victorian Government is investing $5.5 million in the second stage of the Mildura riverfront redevelopment through two grants from the Building Works package and the Regional Infrastructure Fund.
The second stage includes upgrades to the existing Powerhouse building and the creation of a Village Square featuring an in-depth digital information platform, café, outdoor area, public amenities and carpark as part of the designs. Up to 34 jobs are expected to be created during the construction of the second stage.
Stage one of the project was completed in 2017 and included an interactive splash park, outdoor gym equipment, public art sculptures and improved accessibility. Three million people have visited the Mildura riverfront since stage one’s completion.
The Building Works package is designed to provide immediate benefit to communities across Victoria through shovel-ready projects that will create jobs now and provide lasting benefits in response to economic challenges brought about by coronavirus, drought and bushfires.
The Regional Infrastructure Fund is part of the flagship Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, with both programs key to the Government’s almost $30 billion investment across regional and rural Victoria since 2015. Refer to Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund for more information.
