The Murray Basin Rail Project is set to deliver important upgrades to Victoria's rail freight network to meet the increasing demand for freight services through delivering efficiency improvements to rail freight lines in the region.
The Victorian Government has committed up to $220 million to deliver the project, with $30 million already allocated towards stage one of the project which involves a package of essential maintenance works of the Mildura freight line. This work, between Yelta and Maryborough, is already underway and will be completed during 2016.
In August 2015 the business case for the full project was released and a commitment was made to deliver 3 further stages of work to standardise all rail freight lines servicing the Murray Basin region. The next stage of work will commence in the second half of 2016.
