Town Jetty Unveiled at Portland Foreshore17/01/2022
The Portland foreshore is being transformed into a vibrant and accessible space for locals and visitors thanks to support from the Victorian Government.
The new Town Jetty and extension to the Portland Bay Marina, forms part of a multimillion-dollar investment into the Portland Foreshore Redevelopment.
The redevelopment is backed by the Portland Foreshore Masterplan which the Victorian Government is investing $9.8 million in from the Building Works Package and the Regional Infrastructure Fund.
The reinstatement of the expansive 178 metre Portland Town Jetty is already proving popular with locals and visitors, with all abilities access, designated recreational fishing pontoons and seating.
The masterplan also features the extension of the Bay Marina which now has 34 new dedicated berths, ensuring security and future growth of boating and recreational fishing in Portland.
It is being delivered in stages and will also include a multipurpose community and club facility with ocean-facing balconies for events and functions.
Once complete the Portland foreshore multipurpose facility will feature hospitality and retail spaces and is expected to generate an extra $18.8 million for the region’s economy, supporting 75 jobs during construction.
As part of the Portland Foreshore Masterplan, upgrades to the Portland Trawler Wharf are also complete thanks to $1.3 million from the Building Works Package. The works include a new purpose-built pontoon and walkway extension, increasing space for more commercial fishing vessels.
The $5.5 million investment from the Regional Infrastructure Fund is part of the Victorian Government’s flagship $156 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, helping businesses create more jobs in regional Victoria, supporting community projects and backing councils to build the infrastructure that locals and visitors need.
The further $4.3 million of support through the $2.7 billion Building Works Package is part of the Victorian Government’s almost $30 billion investment in regional and rural Victoria since 2015. Read more about Portland’s foreshore redevelopment.
