Upgrading Castlemaine Library for the community

Avid readers across Castlemaine and the surrounding areas have an upgraded space to enjoy their passion with vital upgrades made to Castlemaine Library.

Upgrades funded through the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative will repair the library floor to ensure the safe delivery of services for all guests, while adding new movable shelving to provide a flexible and functional space.

Castlemaine Library is a well-used and historic building in the town and repairs were much needed to ensure it remains a meeting place for the community.

The added flexibility will allow the library to better utilise their space in peak and off-peak times, with adequate room for events such as children’s sessions, author talks, school holiday programs and creative workshops.

The library welcomes over 12,000 visitors every month as a valuable resource for the Mount Alexander Shire and surrounding areas and the upgrades will greatly enhance accessibility for patrons.

While offering a modern and usable space for the community across Mount Alexander Shire to enjoy, Castlemaine Library is also dedicated to providing and maintaining the heritage of the Mechanics Institute building which previously stood on the site.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards, who visited the library to view the upgrades said; “Castlemaine Library is an important meeting place and resource for the community and the Government is proud to support this institution with vital upgrades.”

Pick My Project is a participatory budgeting initiative from the Victorian Government, with the public encouraged to vote on projects they would like introduced in their community.
