Regional Development Victoria Delivering for Rural and Regional Victoria logo

Engaging with our Community

Central Highlands Regional Partnerships Logo

The Central Highlands Regional Partnership consults and engages with its community throughout the year.

Each of the nine Regional Partnerships hosted a virtual roundtable in May/June 2020 to hear directly from community and business leaders across regional Victoria.

The insights and evidence from the roundtables are now assisting the government in better understanding the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on local communities and paving the way for recovery through identifying the unique challenges and opportunities each region faces in driving social and economic recovery.

Working in tandem with the Regional Partnerships, Victoria’s five regionally based Regional Development Australia (RDA) committees helped determine place-based solutions to local issues and align Victorian and national efforts across all three tiers of government.

In previous years, the annual Regional Assembly has provided a large forum and focus for such engagement.

2018 Central Highlands Regional Assembly

The 2018 Central Highlands Regional Assembly was held on Thursday 14 June in Ballarat and was attended by more than 220 community members and senior government leaders. As in 2017, the event kicked off with a Youth Assembly, attended by more than 60 young delegates representing schools across the region.

The Assembly was an opportunity to hear what the Partnership has achieved to date, and for further discussions on our top priorities:

  • Energy
  • Homelessness
  • Health
  • Digital connectivity
  • Agriculture.

It was great to see so many people there and to hear the passion and depth of conversation.

The Assembly was also a great opportunity to showcase some of our local premium producers and produce.

A report was sent to attendees after the Assembly.

A full unedited record of notes from the Assembly was also distributed.

A video was screened at the Assembly to show was the Partnership has achieved.

2017 Central Highlands Regional Assembly

Around 250 people attended our 2017 Central Highlands Regional Assembly in Creswick in August.

It was a chance for local people to tell Partnership Members, Government Ministers and representatives what is important to us.

The Assembly was immediately preceded by a Youth Forum with 45 young people discussing the issues facing the region and possible solutions.

The main topics discussed at the Assembly were:

  • Health
  • Environment and Energy
  • Education
  • Transport
  • Digital connectivity
  • Economic Diversification
  • Social Welfare

A letter and a snapshot were sent to attendees.

2016 Central Highlands Regional Assembly

The first Central Highlands Regional Assembly was held in in Ballarat in November 2016.

The Assembly generated a very large number of ideas which sit broadly under the following themes:

  • Economic Development
  • Education and Training
  • Environment and Agriculture
  • Infrastructure and Connectivity
  • Social Welfare and Community.
