Local Economic Development and Job Creation

Part of the Putting Locals First Program, Local Economic Development and Job Creation projects invest in local initiatives to stimulate business and support the creation of jobs.

Activities that could be supported include:

  • local economic planning including development of economic development strategies, structural plans, policies or design guidelines around a town or localised regions, future growth and amenity needs
  • promoting regional tourism and events
  • developing local marketing initiatives to support small business
  • new approaches in supporting businesses to employ long term unemployed people through a partnership of employment providers, government and local business
  • economic and community development responses to industry/economic or climate change i.e. closure of a major employer and
  • supporting development of industrial infrastructure that assists in attracting investment and contributes to economic growth.

Eligibility

The following organisations in Victoria can apply for funding:

  • private sector businesses and agencies
  • local government authorities
  • not for profit organisations that:
    • are an incorporated body, cooperative or association (including business associations) and
    • have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or can provide written advice from the Australian Tax Office that no withholding tax is required from the grant payment.
