We’ve provided $5 million to help Latrobe City deliver projects that support businesses, liveability and visitor experience through our Council Support Package.
These programs and initiatives are set to be completed in 2026. It’s part of our commitment to making Latrobe City and Gippsland even better places to live, work, stay and play.
Aboriginal-owned business support
This funding will increase the capacity of Aboriginal-owned businesses through workshops and mentorship programs to help them realise new opportunities and expand their business offerings. Funding has already supported the successful Deadly in Gippsland Expo event, which was designed to connect, educate and empower First Nations business people and raise their profile among potential buyers and procurers.
Targeted access and inclusion programs
Funding to be used across leisure centres and libraries to deliver programs that will focus on access and inclusion activities, ensuring even more people can benefit from these venues.
Public Wi-Fi Improvements
This project will add new sites to the Free Public Wi-Fi network, expanding the service into new towns within Latrobe City. It will upgrade critical Wi-Fi links, increase coverage and provide a fit for purpose public Wi-Fi service for businesses and the community.
Tourism Infrastructure Accessibility Improvements Grant Program
The program will support tourism related businesses to apply accessibility upgrades to their facilities. This may include the installation of access ramps, Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant signage for visual impairment, hearing loops, accessible toilets and more. The program is linked to the Gippsland Accessible Tourism Plan.
Supporting volunteering recruitment and retention
This funding supports development of the Volunteering Gippsland website, in partnership with GippSport.
By providing an online hub with free digital volunteer management tools, the project supports organisations across the region to build their service capacity and attract new volunteers.
Economic Development and Placemaking Initiatives
Improvements to the Morwell and Moe town centres will increase visitation to help local businesses improve their profitability and help to generate economic activity, while creating a greater sense of vibrancy in both CBDs. This will also improve liveability for residents and boost the visitor experience for tourists.
Traffic Management training
Supporting the delivery of targeted traffic management training will increase the capacity of volunteer organisations to deliver their events in a safe and sustainable manner. As part of this program, some volunteers will be offered training to help them support Council run events in Latrobe City.
Public Art – Murals
A range of public artworks will be funded across Latrobe City.
Local artists will be commissioned to create works that represent the diverse communities that call the city home.
Pedestrian Link upgrade Kingsford Street Linear Park
This project will improve the pedestrian link between Ted Summerton Reserve and the Moe Railway Station, in accordance with elements of the Kingsford St Reserve Masterplan.
Works will include:

Installation of large outdoor screen at Moe Service Centre and Skate Park
The installation of a screen at this venue will compliment works completed as part of the recent Moe Revitalisation Project Stage 2, further enhancing the space and making it more suitable to host community and special events, as well as other public activities.
Pavilion Refurbishment Maryvale Reserve
Refurbishment of the pavilion at Morwell’s Maryvale Reserve to modernise facilities and create more space for user groups.
Once complete, works will encourage greater participation in sport and recreation activities, providing an opportunity for tenant clubs and groups to expand their memberships.
Playing surface works at Maryvale Reserve
Improvements to the playing surface and drainage system at the Morwell reserve, which will ensure existing users can use the reserve to its full potential and continue to attract new participants. These improvements will also ensure the reserve is available for events, use by schools and community recreation.
Oval resurfacing works at Crinigan Road South
Minor resurfacing works at the rear oval of Morwell’s Crinigan Road South will ensure the ground is suitable for use throughout the year. These improvements ensure the tenant soccer club has additional training and game space during the season, when wet weather often impacts the ground, providing an opportunity for even more locals to participate in the World Game.
Sport Participation Partnerships
Development of partnerships with sporting organisations to promote and increase community participation across a range of sports.
Establishing these partnerships provides benefits to community members through:
- improved health and wellbeing outcomes
- increased social connection
- access to elite pathways in the local area
- better access to training and coaching for community level sports.
Venue launch Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park
