The striking façade of the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre precinct is almost complete.

Designed in collaboration with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, the sweeping façade imagines Geelong’s Western Beach cliffs, a place of deep cultural and spiritual significance for Wadawurrung People.

This sparkling addition to Geelong’s waterfront is made up of more than 25,000 tiles and extensive glass glazing, features which add to the sustainability of the building by improving insulation.

Above, on the roof, more than 1,000 solar panels have been installed to help the venue operate from renewable energy – all part of its zero-carbon strategy.

The upcoming completion of the façade will mark the latest milestone in the major precinct development that will provide a boost for the Geelong community, local businesses and the state economy.

Due to be completed next year, the precinct will offer a Plenary Hall that can host 1,000 people, event spaces, conference facilities, opportunities for food and beverage retailers, a public plaza, and 200-room hotel.

Once completed, Nyaal Banyul will enhance Geelong’s position as a premier city and events leader in Victoria by bringing in more international events, exhibitors and attendees.

Being delivered as a precinct partnership through the  Geelong City Deal, the project is supporting a range of local jobs in construction, including apprenticeships and opportunities for women in construction.
