A new plan for historic harbour
10/09/2025There’s a new future for Apollo Bay’s much-loved harbour precinct with finalisation of a plan outlining a range of improvements.
The Apollo Bay Harbour Precinct Plan has now been finalised after extensive community consultation. It's a major step forward in a project to revitalise the historic site for community, commercial operators and visitors.
Backed by a $12.6 million investment through the Geelong City Deal, the precinct plan outlines improved public spaces, such as a viewing deck over the Port Operations Depot.
Upgrades to the Mothers Beach car park, and better pedestrian connections into town and around the precinct will also improve visitor access.
Meanwhile, there’s an expansion planned for The Fishermen’s Cooperative building. This will add new dining options, see the return of the wet fish market, and add an outdoor terrace to enjoy the Co-op’s famous fish and chips.
The plan also outlines upgrades to the Port Operations Depot, with a new workshop and a public toilet with a Changing Places restroom. A new location is identified near the boast ramp for the marine search-and-rescue boat.
The Apollo Bay Harbour is integral to the town’s identity, and the final plan for its redevelopment has been shaped by extensive community consultation.
Redevelopment of the harbour precinct will be delivered by the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA), with funding via the Geelong City Deal.
The Geelong City Deal is a $676 million initiative between the Australian and Victorian Governments and local councils to deliver projects that unlock the potential of the Great Ocean Road economy.
