A new sun rises on Falls Creek

Come rain, snow or shine, adventure lovers looking to make memories in the High Country can now enjoy the ‘Flower of the Alpine Sun’ - a golden orb fine art sculpture that doubles as a viewing platform.

Sitting atop Falls Creek, this unique art installation was delivered in partnership with Alpine Resorts Victoria as part of our $10 million Alpine Business Support Package.

Developed by internationally recognised artist Gio Veronesi and constructed in Ballarat, the Flower of the Alpine sun is now in place and ready to welcome visitors for the 2026 snow season.

The structure is located across from Halley’s Comet chairlift and the Cloud 9 Restaurant, providing visitors with a new space to take in the natural beauty of the area and reflect on Falls Creek’s beautiful and delicate environment.

It is the only significant fine art piece in the Australian Alps and one of the most unique works now present in regional Australia.

The ‘Flower of the Alpine Sun’ sculpture is the final project to be delivered as part of our $10 million Alpine Business Support Package.

Designed to fund events, initiatives and attractions to drive visitation and longer stays in our Alpine region, the package has supported the delivery of several projects across Victoria’s alpine resorts.

At Falls Creek, this has included the creation of a downhill mountain biking trail and lakeside water attractions to drive ‘green tourism’ during the summer months, as well as a winter play area for snow lovers - complete with snow making units and a magic carpet lift that inspires people to get the most out of their high country adventure.

The package has also funded the summer ‘Feastival’, a three-day event which brings together music, art, food, comedy and culture in the High Country - strengthening Falls Creek’s reputation as a summer destination.

Funding was also contributed towards other events and attractions, including the successful Festival of Light, which welcomed visitors back to the resort in 2022 with audio-visual displays that celebrated the 75th anniversary of Falls Creek.

With the Flower of the Alpine Sun standing tall and ready to welcome visitors, Falls Creek is an even more exciting destination, all year round.
