A safer way to shop and explore Castlemaine

05/12/2025

Bustling Castlemaine in central Victoria now has a safer and more accessible retail strip, with the installation of an improved pedestrian crossing in the heart of town.

Backed by the Victorian Government’s Council Support Package, the raised ‘wombat’ crossing makes pedestrians more visible to drivers on busy Mostyn Street.

The upgrade will make this key connection in town safer, particularly for children and people with limited mobility.

Mostyn Street connects vehicles and pedestrians with many shops and cafes in town, and also busy locations such as the Visitor Centre and Victory Park.

The project was a priority in Mount Alexander Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan and will make for a safer and more accessible visit to this popular Goldfields town.

The Victorian Government’s Council Support Package is an investment in local councils across regional Victoria on projects that will create long-lasting value for their communities.
