A sport and culture boost for Shepparton
06/10/2026Shepparton now has improved sport facilities and a scenic walkway to attract visitors and locals to the popular Gemmill Swamp Wildlife Reserve.
The upgrades to VISY Stadium, Shepparton Sports Stadium and the Yanha Gurtji Shared Path were funded by $3 million from our Council Support Package.

As well as boosting the city’s sport and recreation infrastructure, this investment supported more than 70 local jobs during construction. It will also provide an economic boost to local businesses and suppliers by attracting more visitors.
At the Shepparton Sports City Precinct, upgrades to VISY stadium have provided clubs with:
- improved basketball courts
- upgraded scoreboards and shot clocks
- new gender-inclusive accessible changing rooms.
Roof renovations have also been completed to secure the longevity of the building.
The nearby Shepparton Sport Stadium has also undergone roof repairs and changing room upgrades. New scoring equipment and accessibility will improve community sport and major events.
It also means local clubs have the facilities to expand their membership and offer more elite development pathways for athletes.
Shepparton Sports City is now also better equipped to host carnivals and events thanks to a new car park, internal footpaths and pedestrian crossings that make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to get around.

Across the city, works on the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path have created a scenic walking and cycling route through the Gemmill Swamp Wildlife Reserve to connect Shepparton and Mooroopna.
Travellers can enjoy the beautiful plants and animals of Yorta Yorta Country, while learning about local history through interpretive signs installed along the way.
The path also connects major tourism attractions such as Shepparton Art Museum, Aquamoves and Victoria Park Lake to make it easier than ever to enjoy local attractions.
Our Council Support Package is designed to help local governments attract more visitors to regional cities and towns and to create public spaces that empower communities.
