Avalon Airport to ascend with infrastructure upgrades
05/12/2025Avalon Airport will soon open the region’s door to more business activity and jobs through a new infrastructure project at the airport’s domestic and international terminals.
The project will support the local economy, connect the region to global businesses and pave the way for more flights.
As part of the infrastructure, 1,000 new seats will be added across the terminals, along with a 600 square-metre pre-boarding area to cater to domestic passengers.
New runway lighting, security equipment, CCTV cameras and water connections to the airport’s control tower will be delivered to support the larger airport capacity.
Supported by Regional Development Victoria, the project is expected to create 80 jobs at the airport including customer service, security and maintenance roles.
We’re backing these works to improve the competitive advantage of regional Victorian businesses with the soon to be reopened international airport expected to open the door to more global business opportunities – both in and out of Avalon Airport.
By investing in enabling infrastructure at Avalon Airport that supports more businesses, we’re also helping the aviation industry to hire more workers and boost the local economy.
The infrastructure upgrades we’re supporting will also allow international travel to be on the doorstep of Victoria’s south coast, enabling a second airport in Victoria to provide more capacity for domestic and international flights.
With a larger capacity and more flights, Avalon is expected to bring in even more visitors from across Australia to Victoria, including nearby tourism hotspots such as the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast.
Avalon Airport’s expansion is building on additional investments in the region, including the $676 million Geelong City Deal that will attract visitors to the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Events Centre and the Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Centre.
Our support for Avalon Airport is part of our commitment to make regional Victoria grow and thrive.
