Building more worker housing for Benalla Health

28/07/2026

There are more job opportunities on the way for healthcare professionals in the state’s north-east.

Works are now underway on Benalla Health’s worker accommodation project, which is being supported by our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

Once completed, the project will offer 18 units to provide accommodation for up to 34 healthcare workers and their families – providing a major boost for regional healthcare.

Benalla Health provides services to more than 14,000 people in Benalla and its surrounds, offering:

  • emergency care
  • surgical procedures
  • home care
  • in and outpatient services
  • allied health programs.

Like many regional healthcare providers, Benalla Health has faced challenges in attracting and retaining staff, often due to limited options for local accommodation.

These 18 self-contained dwellings will help fill that gap, in-turn supporting the local provision of health services and job opportunities in in this vibrant part of the state.

The project is being delivered by Wodonga-based builder Southern Vale Homes and is expected to engage more than 100 tradespeople and suppliers across the construction period.

The new accommodation at Benalla Health is among almost 50 accommodation projects across Victoria currently supported through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, including a number that support local health services.

This fund is part of our ongoing work to make our regions even better places to live, work, experience, invest and study.
