We’re supporting a family-owned meat processing business in regional Victoria to create 74 jobs in Corio and strengthen the local economy.

M.C. Herd is expanding its beef processing capabilities with a new production area that will:

  • reduce manual handling
  • improve water usage
  • increase output

The local business will unlock almost $38 million in capital investment over 5 years through the expansion, securing Geelong’s position as the largest regional economy in Victoria.

More than 300 workers are employed at M.C. Herd’s facility in Corio, making it a key employer for the area.

The company also produces lamb products which are sold internationally – including to countries such as:

  • Japan
  • Taiwan
  • Indonesia
  • South Korea
  • the United Arab Emirates.

M.C. Herd’s expansion is made possible by the Victorian Investment Fund.

The fund is also backing expansions at northern Victorian dairy processors Tongala Nutrition and Goulburn Valley Creamery, and food manufacturer George Weston Foods’ Ballarat site.

Victoria has the largest agriculture and food processing workforce in Australia, with these investments continuing to ensure the state continues to lead the country.
