Geelong laundromat spins new jobs into the economy

A Geelong industrial laundry business has created local jobs and expanded its operations to drive further economic growth in the region.

Geelong & Surfcoast Laundry has created more than 30 new jobs following major upgrades at its Newtown facility that were supported by Regional Development Victoria.

The business installed a new ironing line, towel-folding equipment and a semi-automated sorting system which have increased production and efficiency at its industrial laundry.

The upgrades are allowing the company to boost its ironing output by 44 per cent and deliver an extra 14 tonnes of towels folded each week.

This year marks 30 years since Geelong & Surfcoast Laundry began serving local customers, and five years since it expanded into large-scale commercial laundry processing for Geelong and Melbourne.

Its expansion shows the economic confidence in the Geelong area. Unemployment in the region remains below 4 per cent, lower than the Victorian average, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data.

We continue to support local businesses to invest, grow and create jobs across the regions, including in Breakwater where HealthRFId has created seven new roles through its BloodControl technology.

A dozen roles were also created at Prestige Jayco in Newcomb through their dealership expansion and new worker housing is being createdfor up to 10 Sea Bounty workers in St Leonards.

These projects are helping to strengthen Geelong and the broader region’s economy.
