It takes a village: Latrobe worker accommodation opens
09/02/2026We’ve helped to create more opportunities for Latrobe Valley residents to access trusted health and aged care services.
It’s all thanks to the completion of new key worker housing at Latrobe Valley Village’s Newborough facility, which was made possible by our Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

Latrobe Valley Village is an important residential and aged care facility, supporting health and wellbeing outcomes for elderly people and those who care for them.
Works delivered at the Newborough site have transformed an unused wing of the existing aged care building into 7 new and self-contained units for workers and their families.
The wing, now known as ‘Ceder Workstay’, offers staff access to a new communal kitchen, a prayer room and laundry facilities.
By providing short and medium-term accommodation options, Ceder Workstay is drawing skilled workers to the Latrobe Valley to provide much-needed services for the community, which is home to an ageing population which has previously outpaced the availability of local services.
The project has also supported jobs across a range of industries throughout construction, with 45 workers and 15 businesses directly benefiting from this build, in addition to the staff now living at the facility.
Latrobe Valley Village is one of several healthcare providers that’s bringing in more workers thanks to the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, which is also supporting accommodation builds for Bairnsdale District Health, Omeo District Health and Bayside Health
We’re also supporting a range of activities across the Latrobe Valley with $5 million from our Council Support Package.
These include sporting and streetscape upgrades, new community and volunteer programs, improved internet access and support for Aboriginal-owned businesses.
This support for Latrobe is part of our ongoing commitment to making rural and regional Victoria an even better place to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.
