Kicking Goals in the Kitchen in Casterton

15/08/2025

The Casterton-Sandford Football Netball Club is serving up something special this season, thanks to much needed upgrades to its kitchen facilities.

The club received $50,000 through the Tiny Towns Fund for new kitchen benchtops, cupboards and flooring - setting up the space to support players, fans and the wider community for decades to come.

‘This funding has been fantastic for our community and has enabled us to refurbish our kitchen in a few months instead of a few years. The subcommittee, volunteers and suppliers are to be thanked for completing the project before the start of the 2025 season,’ Casterton-Sandford Football Netball Club Secretary Andrew Astbury said.

‘The new kitchen provides a fantastic work area for our volunteers who provide meals, canteen services and catering for many events.’

The upgrades were completed by local builders and suppliers ahead of the 2025 Limestone Coast Football Netball League season, allowing the club to continue to meet health and safety standards, and maintain accreditation as a commercial kitchen this season and beyond.

‘It enables the club to continue to provide quality services in modern facilities to the Casterton community and support our community in times of celebration, commiseration, emergency events and any other event we can use the social rooms for,’ Andrew said.

The history of the club stretches back 150 years to 1875. For the past three decades, the clubrooms have been used on training and game days, as well as for functions, business events, emergency response events and as a backup for the local hospital and aged care facility kitchens.

The Victorian Government’s Tiny Towns Fund is helping to make football and netball facilities across regional Victoria even better places for the local community to train, play and come together.

‘Football/Netball clubs are the centre of all small towns, and the ability of our club to provide quality facilities is something our community is very proud of,’ Andrew said.

This kitchen upgrade is part of our investment in regional Victoria to continue to make our tiniest towns even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.
